LSTM Fellowships and Scholarships

Studentships  |  Fellowships and Scholarships  |  External sources of funding

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine welcomes applications for scholarships, bursaries and fellowships which are available for students who are accepted at LSTM to pursue studies, in accordance with our Mission Statement.

Students attending the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from Home/ EEA countries are not eligible to apply for an LSTM scholarship.

Awards will be made on the basis of academic merit and will be available to support a proportion of the fees of students on LSTM programmes. Most awards are made on a competitive basis and do not exceed 50% of the tuition fees. Priority will be given to applicants who have additional funding in place, have an expectation that this can be obtained, or can show evidence that they are actually searching for additional funds.

Awards are available from various funds, all of which have different regulations governing their allocation, and the Fellowships and Scholarships Committee decides on the most appropriate source of funding for individual applications, based on those regulations.

Awards are normally made by the Fellowship and Scholarship Committee which meets in January, May and November each year. In exceptional circumstances, consideration to applications may be given via a "fast track" system outside of these times.

Taught programme applications.

Students offered a place on a programme will be provided with a scholarship application form by the Programme Administrator.

For taught programmes commencing in September, applications for support will be considered in May of the same year. All applicants must have accepted at least a conditional offer of a place and submitted their application for support to the Student Registry, by 30thApril.

For taught programmes commencing in January or February, applications for support will be considered in the preceding November. The deadline for acceptance of at least a conditional offer and receipt of the support application form is 31st October.

For taught programmes commencing in April, applications for support will be considered in the preceding January. The deadline for acceptance of at least a conditional offer and receipt of the support application form is 4th January.

Research programme applications.

Prospective research students are not eligible to apply for scholarships through the Scholarships Committee. LSTM is developing a PhD studentship scheme for candidates with exceptional research credentials, which will be investigated through a rigorous short-listing procedure followed by interviews. The intention is to offer up to two fully-funded studentships per year to work within active research groups. These positions will be advertised internationally, based around project proposals submitted by LSTM staff. Further details will be posted on this website when available.

Enquiries regarding all scholarships should be addressed to the appropriate Programme Administrator as detailed on the Registry Contact List
