Head of Research Group: Dr I Bates
The DCSG has a multi-disciplinary, multi-interest membership with prime responsibilities of individuals being in the areas of research, teaching, resource centres, technical assistance and administration. Many of the group’s research and resource activities are supported by funders such as The Wellcome Trust, European Union and DFID as well as by agencies in developing countries.
Although much of the group’s work is cross-disciplinary, group members have particular interests in the areas of neglected tropical diseases, health and laboratory systems, blood transfusion and anaemia, integrated strategies for control of major diseases and capacity building. Within the group there is expertise in clinical and basic laboratory sciences, diagnostic systems, tropical haematology, community health, health systems and educational methods as well as in specific diseases. The group harnesses the expertise of all these diverse groups through
